Some places welcome you the moment you arrive. Others wait for you - quietly - until you step into their stillness. The Mamu Tropical Skywalk is one of those places.
“Quiet moments. Endless rainforest.”
A scenic drive from Bellbry Lodge this elevated rainforest wander offers an experience that feels both grounding and expansive. It’s the kind of day trip best enjoyed without rushing - an unhurried invitation to step gently into the ancient world of the Wet Tropics.

A Day Trip That Begins With the Drive
Part of Mamu’s charm is simply getting there. You can take the coastal route (1 hour and 45 minutes), a beautiful drive that takes you past open cane fields and stretches of quiet cattle country. The landscape feels wide and laid-back, shifting between the shimmer of the sea and the rhythm of rural life.
Or, if you prefer, take the inland route (2 hours and 15 minutes) through the scenic Atherton Tablelands. This drive winds gently through rolling hills, pockets of rainforest and small country towns - perfect for those who enjoy a slower, more contemplative journey.

Neither is the “right” choice. Each has its own pace, its own beauty. Simply choose the drive that suits the kind of day you’re hoping for.
A Slow Ascent Into the Canopy
The Skywalk rises gradually, lifting you from the forest floor into a world of filtered light and layered greens. Birds shift softly between branches and if you pause for a moment, you might hear the distant, resonant call of a Wompoo pigeon echoing through the trees. The breeze carries that warm, earthy scent of the tropics and the rainforest seems to settle around you in a way that encourages deeper breaths and slower steps.
“Filtered light, layered greens, gentle breaths.”
There’s no rush here - just the steady calm of the canopy guiding you forward at its own gentle pace.

A View That Lingers Long After You Leave
At the far end of the walkway, a lookout tower rises above the treetops, revealing the breathtaking North Johnstone River Gorge. Rolling mountains, deep valleys and an endless sweep of rainforest stretch in every direction, creating a panorama that invites stillness. Guests often remember not the height or distance travelled, but the sense of spaciousness that seems to unfurl around you as you pause and lean on the railing.

The forest walking tracks, elevated walkways, cantilever, and lookout tower are all self-guided, allowing you to explore at your own unhurried pace. Interpretive signage along the path shares the stories, culture and natural history of the Ma:Mu Traditional Owners, enriching each step through the rainforest.

Make a Day of It
Let the Skywalk be just the beginning. After your wander through the treetops, enjoy a relaxed lunch at Paronella Park or linger over something simple and satisfying at a cosy Tablelands café. If the day is warm, take the scenic detour to one of the region’s waterfalls - Millaa Millaa or Ellinjaa - where cool mist and flowing water offer a refreshing pause.
“A day that unfolds exactly at your pace.”
